New cover design for Peril by Ruby Barnes

For a number of reasons I'm changing the front cover of Peril.

My designer has come up with six variants. These are just drafts. If you have a minute then please take a look and let me know which you prefer, A through F.

Cheers,
Ruby

  1. C or E for me - they're the kind of covers that would make me pick them up out shopping! :)

  2. Thanks, Emerald.
    So far it's A=1 B=1 C=4 D=1 E=3 F=0

  3. It has to be out of C or E for me too Ruby

  4. I like C also, Ruby, but would like just a bit of color in the text and the fog maybe.

  5. 2-it feels shadowy, perilous, with an aura of danger

  7. I think either B or C would be good.

  8. I liked option B :) New follower. My blog is @ YA Story Teller .

  9. D or E would probably catch my eye first, but C definitely captures the feel of the book and Ger's turmoil. So I guess I would go with C for my choice.

  10. Many thanks, folks! I like D E F for the pic but it's not really relevant to the story of Peril. So it's gotta be C.
I can't decide whether or not to put a tagline on the front, though.

  11. Looks like I'm a bit late for this one Ruby, but I like C and F. The darker colours go better with the word Peril...me thinks. Tag line is good, it adds flavour. But should your name be in Black? Word dude!

  12. Hi Ruby. I'm late too, but maybe not too late (?). I think it has to be C, but imo you should put something more definite into the distant landscape and use some colour there. That way, the dark shadowy figure in the foreground would be much more effective. Also, you should make the author name the main feature by increasing the font size to match or exceed the name of the book, and by making it darker. JJ

  13. PS Tagline on the front is essential.

  14. JJ, you're a bit late for the party but I think there's some whiskey left in the cabinet for you. I have two versions, one with and one without tagline, so favouring the tagline ;-]

  15. Definitely B. The eye goes straight to the title and the periphery figure is the lurking man as it should be.

  16. "C" is absolutely the shit, dude. Caught my eye, big time, and now I have to read the book. Just like that. Seriously, I was going to comment and ask if YOU came up with that cover design. The first design REALLY sucked. Sorry ;)

  17. Thanks, Jim. Yep, this is my third cover for this book. It's all a bit of a learning curve!

  18. Thanks Denise. I liked B too but C narrowly got the vote.
